A Message from our President

Sadly, cancer has touched the lives of someone we all know, or who is close to us. If a cure can be found for childhood cancer we feel that we all ought to support the scientists working towards that goal.

The vision of the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia is to save the lives of all children with cancer and eliminate their suffering. The scientists and medical researchers at the CCIA truly believe that we will see a cure for childhood cancer in our lifetime – and that could be lifesaving for own children or grandchildren.

Annual review

PRESIDENT’S REPORT FOR 2008
The members of the new executive committee following the elections held at the AGM on 16/3/08 are as follows:
The 2008-2009 executive committee
(coming soon)

I feel honoured to have been appointed once again President of OEEGA NSW, leading a team of devoted women working towards the OEEGA NSW goals.
ZONTA WEEKEND 2008 -14 – 16 NOVEMBER 2008
4000 BIRTHING KITS
On Friday 16 November 2008 we held a very successful fundraising Taverna night at the Panarcadian Club, Ashbury.
This was followed with the Assembly Day held at the Auditorium of the Cyprus Community Club, on Sunday 16 November 2008. We enjoyed a fantastic response from the community and we assembled 4000 Birthing Kits which were shipped to the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia.
Both of these events were successful and the positive media coverage OEEGA NSW has received was unprecedented.
We were touched by the response we received from  the Greek Women of Sydney, who came from everywhere to help us assemble the Birthing Kits, that we have resolved to assemble 8000 kits this year and help save the lives of 8000 women and 8000 children! With your help, we know we can do it!
RETURN OF SUBSCRIPTIONS TO MOTHERS OF HELLENISM – May 2008
Following the letters we received from the FOEEGANZ President Helen Haltis and the request to send to the ladies participating in the defunct Mothers of Hellenism Program, 3 letters were sent out to all the members in the Mothers of Hellenism Program of which we had a record. The 2 letters were from the FOEEGANZ President Helen Haltis (Greek and English) together with a covering note:
We herewith sadly inform you of the end of the “Mothers of Hellenism Program” which SAE ceased in 2006. We attach the letters we received from the President of the OEEGA Federation Mrs. Helen Haltis with the official announcement, for your records.
Please Note: The executive committees of OEEGA NSW 2007 and 2008 – 2009 had no involvement whatsoever with the “Mothers of Hellenism Program”.
The subscriptions were returned to the Mothers who were happy to receive them. Some Mothers of Hellenism decided to donate their subscriptions to OEEGA NSW for new projects.
SPONSORING THE CCIA GLITTER BALL – OCTOBER 2008
The executive committee decided to sponsor the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia own fundraiser Glitter Ball, held at the Hilton Hotel in Sydney City on 11 October 2008. We donated $ 5000 and that made us a glitter sponsor. The CCIA actually raised $600,000 from the ball, so we have a great deal to learn from them regarding organising successful events. Nine Committee members attended the ball and OEEGA NSW’ logo was featured together with the other sponsors of the Children’s Cancer Institute.
We are now running a raffle to raise funds for the Children’s Cancer Institute which will be drawn on the night of the fundraising dinner on 1st May 2009 at the Grand Roxy. The first prize of the raffle is a car and you can help us by buying raffles today, or by volunteering to sell them to friends, family and colleagues.
